Sallehati Salleh reporting from Singapore.
Start by checking out shopping bargains at Far East Plaza, near Orchard Road (where crew are often accommodated) or Bugis Market in front of the Bugis Shopping Center. Struggling with jetlag? 24 hour shopping at the Mustafa Centre in Little India should keep you occupied. With excellent transport links, you might have time to squeeze in a spot of sightseeing too; try an unforgettable lunch in a cable car at Mount Faber or experience the Night Safari at the Singapore Zoo.
If you sleep straight after a flight, we all know how ghastly it is to wake up hungry at 2am in the morning, only to discover that a measly sandwich can cost as much as a steak in the wrong part of town. In Singapore, make sure you make a beeline for Newton Circus, one of the best places for late night food. Don’t you dare go near a sandwich with barbeque stingray and chilli crab on the menu!
Singapore offers cracking nightlife with bars open daily in the Boat Quay and Clark Quay areas. Most nightclubs are open 2100-0400, with hotspots such as Zirca, Attica, Zouk, Mimolette and Supperclub. When the night comes to an end, satisfy your hunger with late supper at Spize Restaurant on River Valley Road for snacks like roti prata. Sundays are spent partying on the beach at Café Del Mar in Sentosa. What’s not to love?
