Just come home from break in mid/south France. Flights to Bordeaux were pretty expensive and didn't suit me, so I flew to Poitiers instead. Driving through the city to escape to the country we stopped as there was a market in the centre. Some really good stuff. They call it a 'Brocante', but there was a mixture of some antiquey stuff as well as some tat. If only we didn't have to get everything home on the plane there was A LOT of stuff I would have been tempted by (especially bargain furniture - obviously not to french taste, but would have sot 100's in UK). Might be worth looking wherever 'Brocante's are advertised all over France if you're into interiors/bargains.
The other thing worth trying is a 'vide grenier' ('empty attic'), which is like a car boot sale. Generally in smaller places and advertised on the side of the road, like UK in that a lot of crap, but definitely the odd gem!
Good luck bargain hunters!
Mistress Monkey :)
